Worried about your child?
At Backwell School we take the welfare and safety of our students extremely seriously.
We are very aware of the increase in issues around Child Mental Health and, in particular, anxiety amongst the young people we serve.
Being anxious about things is a natural emotion and is something that we all suffer from to various degrees and all children can develop their own ways of dealing with it.
Rarely, anxiety may be severe enough for your child to miss school, but if your child is anxious about school or suffering from other mental health related issues, there are many ways in which we can support you and these can be found below.
Please be aware that some of these services will have waiting lists, and it is essential that you go through your child’s pastoral team to discuss the most suitable support that we can offer.
These situations are often best ‘nipped in the bud’ and so an early call to school when these concerns develop may help us to resolve the situation more quickly.
It is worth clarifying that none of the people working in school are able to diagnose mental health issues and if you have serious concerns about your child, then proper medical referral would always be recommended by your GP.
