'School Of Furniture' – specialist workshops for Design and Technology Students
Throughout November and December every Wednesday evening 5 A Level Product Design students attended a specialist woodwork workshop at Artichoke Ltd (a bespoke furniture and kitchen company.
The aim of the ‘School of Furniture’ is to introduce local 16 and 17 year olds to the world of bespoke joinery and fitted furniture using specialist trade tools and equipment. During the sessions the students were able to use tools, processes and machinery which we are unable to use in school supported by three bespoke joinery specialists from Artichoke.
Their aim was to create a box jointed tea-tray using various hardwood timbers – walnut, teak, chestnut, and oak. They needed to mark, measure and cut accurately then were able to use the CNC sanding machine as well as a vinyl stitcher to manufacture an incredibly high quality product. They were then able to finish this with oils.
We were very proud of the students who took part in this project and they could not have represented the school any better, they were truly outstanding!
A big thank you as well to Artichoke Ltd for offering our students this opportunity.
