The Backwell School Association (BSA) is the parent/staff association for Backwell School, and a registered charity. All parents, carers and staff are automatically members of the BSA and the committee is a group of volunteer parents and members of staff.

Purpose

The primary aim of the BSA is to raise funds which go towards projects which benefit the students of Backwell School. We organise events to raise funds, we also aim to provide social opportunities for parents and also support Backwell School by providing refreshments for school concerts and drama productions.

We canvas opinion from students, parents and staff in order to make our contribution to the students of Backwell School as effective as possible. The committee also provide refreshments at the many concerts and drama productions throughout the year. 

Can you help?

We encourage all parents and carers to become active in supporting the events and participate in the organisation and running of events. You don't have to be on the committee to do so. One way that you can do so is by adding your name to the list of people who have volunteered to help with our various activities. There is no pressure to participate, but if you can find an hour or two occasionally throughout the year to support an event or help with refreshments for a concert, that would be really helpful. It is a great way to meet people and contribute something special to the school and your community. We are pleased to hear from anyone who would like to help with a specific event or who has a new fund-raising idea they would like to carry out with help from other parents. It is fun and also worthwhile, knowing every pound raised is directly benefiting our sons and daughters during their time at Backwell School. It is also good to get an insider view of the school. So please come and join us, your support is essential.

Looking Back

In 2015/16, the BSA ran a successful Christmas fair, provided a bar at plays and concerts throughout the year and held a Ceildih in May as part of the farewell to Headteacher, Mr Baldwin. During the summer holidays, the BSA spent £15k on providing new outdoor shelters, tables and seating in the quad areas so that students had cover at lunchtime. These are already being very well used and we would like to build up further funds to buy more shelters and landscaping. Previous years funding by the BSA has included school mini buses, specialised sewing machines, retractable seating for the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre, new tables for the library and new goal nets.

Next Event

We have an active and large group of parents who volunteer their time for the BSA. The Backwell School Christmas Fair held on Friday 25th November was a great success and raised over £3000 thanks to your generosity and donations. Our next events are running the bars at various School concerts and shows. We are always looking for new members to help for an hour or two at these as more hands make light work - and it's a great way to meet new people. We recently purchased a long awaited covered shelter in the School quad and new outdoor seating areas. These were well used during the Christmas Fair and will provide us with more opportunities for outdoor events. We are now raising funds to increase the number of shelters and provide more landscaping for students to enjoy.

Meetings

The Committee and interested parents meet on the first Tuesday of term at 7.00 pm in the School and you are very welcome to join us.
