In the Sixth Form at Backwell, we offer a lot of opportunities outside the classroom. We expect all sixth formers to take part in these activities because they are enjoyable, they complement the work done in lessons and they are seen as extremely valuable by future employers and Universities.

There are four main kinds of Enrichment Opportunities:

Volunteering – at Backwell through the Sixth Form Help Scheme and charity fund-raising or outside school through the ‘Community Action’ programme.

Sport– such as the annual Sixth Form Production, House Matches and the Paarlauf relay competition.

Competitions - such as the Young Enterprise scheme, inter-tutor group debating, University Challenge and the Woodspring Parliamentary Debating Tournament.

Academic Enrichment – summer schools, work-experience placements, essay-writing competitions, University seminars and workshops are all advertised regularly for Sixth Formers.

Kenya Trip 2019

We are planning a trip to Kenya, jointly with Gordano, Chew Valley and Clevedon Schools, from Sunday 14 July to Thursday 1 August 2019.  The trip is in aid of Mend the Gap, a charity which helps individuals and communities to mend the widening gap between cultures, races, generations and people of different wealth for current and future generations.  The experience offers students the opportunity to explore the wider world and make a difference, as well as creating long-term links, raising awareness and raising funds.
